World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria: Why To Continue Playing?

By Kenneth Schuetz As an avid gamer, and lover of MMORPGs many times when i go to play WoW (World of Warcraft), I start to lose the feeling of how great the game was. I start saying things like most other Vanilla players, back in the day or in Vanilla this was better. This isn’t really true the difference between now and then is I have grown as a person as a gamer since WoW came out. I still love the lore, the dungeons, raids and of course PvP. However why do I have such a hard time committing time to WoW?

Like so many others when WoW is new you have the new game feeling, you haven’t played a game like it ever (well maybe now since it’s 10 years old), however the gameplay and story it brings is unique fun and engaging. Many people say well this or that game will be the WoW killer, when in truth WoW will be it’s own killer. They can only go so long, before they have to release something else, only so many expansions can mask the age of the game. Now we come full circle why can’t I commit to the game like I used to? It’s simple, once that new game feeling wheres off, you feel like you have done everything what’s there left to do?

Well that’s the conundrum with MMOs, since technically the game is never-ending. The closest you can get to “completing” the game is doing all the achievements or attempting to complete them all. Yes it can be done, as proven earlier this year. That would mean you have literally done everything thus far in the game, the key word thus far. As new patches come out, new expansions, so does new content/achievement. Now why would someone play something like that it’s never-ending! Well it occupies time, you usually make great friends whether in real life or in just online. Now here comes the thing how to keep yourself interested.

Like many games that are long, usually RPGs I have completed before or still have yet to complete I get bored after a while. This leads me to bounce from game to game, do I ever come back? Yes, but sometimes it might not be until six months later, when the RPG or game I am playing has finally warn me down. Usually furring this time I will log on to WoW look around might even run a dungeon, do a LFR (Looking For Raid) then log off. Then the other day it hit me, the nostalgia the new game feeling and excitement as I got my Protadin to a 496 Item Level. I was finally able to do Siege of Orgrimar the final raid of this expansion on one of my favorite charters.

I was finally out of the doldrums of the game I had it back. I started making plans for doing flex raids with my guild since you only need around 8 people to get it going. So we could be raiding we could go into the expansion raiding and actually have that feeling again. Will it happen? That’s for time to tell not I, however the point of this article is that even though that New Game Feeling wheres off the game is still the same game, you may need a break. That doesn’t mean you should just give up on the game!
